Thanks for the confusion, Monster.ie

I'm looking for work at the moment, and the easiest way to look for work is through my web browser. One of these sites is Monster.ie. Monster's site seems designed specifically to frustrate the user.

Here's an example. I'm looking for a web design or web development job. This means that a suitable job could be in any of these twelve categories:

  • Web Application Developer
  • Web Applications Developer
  • Graphic/Web Designer
  • Web Designer
  • Web Designer/Developer
  • Web Developer/Programmer
  • Web Programmer
  • Web Developer
  • Sr. Web Developer
  • Senior Web Developer
  • Web Master
  • Webmaster

What's worse is that they recommend you name your CV after one of the categories, without giving you a list of what categories actually exist, so that an employer can find it easily. What category should I choose? I chose Web Designer/Developer; does this mean that an employer looking for a Web Designer or Web Developer won't find my CV?

I've been using computers since I was five. If I find a site targetted at the general population difficult and frustrating to use, something is seriously wrong with their design process.

Whats even more ridiculous is the fact that you only noticed this now, despite wanting a job for quite a while!

This is the second time you've mentioned looking for a job on your blog, but it deserves a permanent entry, and you should have your cv up here. Its ridiculous that you spend loads of time working on the blog, but neglected to put your cv up in that time. Its quite a common thing for people looking for work to advertise this on their website.

Re monster: Stop moaning about them, it won't get you a job any quicker. Theres plenty of other job sites that you need to try anyway. The annoying thing is not monsters layout, but the duplication of jobs between sites.

Des: I noticed it a while ago, only bothered to grab the full (I hope) list of categories now.

Phil: I definitely should have my CV up. That's a pretty major problem. I'll sort that out tomorrow, if I can spare the time.

Moaning about Monsters' site won't get me a job any quicker, but neither will eating. The moaning does no harm. It's not stopping me from using Monster, just making it more difficult. It's certainly not stopping me from using other job sites.
